Some History from Trevor:
The car was bought brand new from Tom Williams Garage in Ashby Parva which was trading as ‘Ashby Garage’ and the local South Leicestershire British Leyland Dealership.
I can’t remember exactly, but I think my dad paid around £900 for the car which was Undersealed from new.
The Underseal kept it’s adverse weather resistant properties as it was frequently treated with Waxoyl.
The car was used daily for 6 years before it was mothballed and then only used as a show car.
The MG is 100% totally original and in unmolested condition having only covered 53,000 miles, for instance the vehicle still displays the original number plates and the Bluemels sticker.
As for mechanicals, apart from serviceable items , I know it has had a new clutch, a slave cylinder and 2 upper float chambers that’s it!
My father was an Aero Engineer for Rolls Royce and he did all the servicing on the vehicle.
The car has always been housed in an integral garage and therefore has no corrosion and over the last 50 years never went out in wet conditions.
It still has the original Jack, Hood (plus a spare) and Tonneau, everything has been wrapped in quilts and has no damage or ‘yellowing’ of the Perspex.
During the late 1970’s and 80’s the car won numerous concours awards through the U.K both with the MGOC and also at local events.
In truth the car is no longer in Concours condition as the 56 year old paintwork is showing its age with some slight crazing on the boot and the interior carpet faded around the transmission tunnel, however this corroborates the authenticity.
The condition of the car is testament to my fathers meticulous standards, for example the car was always washed (both upper and lower) and leathered before it went into the heated garage if salt was present on the roads ..
